Wanume Benon

Introduction

Community-based education, research and service (COBERS) involves training of undergraduate medical and nursing students in the community. COBERS helps students understand the local community needs, address health disparities in distribution of healthcare workers, and provision of primary healthcare activities. Although training institutions have adopted COBERS, challenges in community involvement in COBERS activities have been noted. The study will use community-based participatory research approach to enhance community health through the COBERS program. Qualitative interviews will be conducted to understand the effect of COBERS in enhancing community health. Subsequently, community-based interventions will be developed to promote health in the communities through use of locally acceptable solutions for disease prevention and health promotion.
